Run your first task in Mandri
Start with a project folder and a task you want the agent to carry out. Mandri keeps the conversation, tool activity and recorded file changes together in a session.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”Install the desktop app and open it. You also need an available agent tool and access to a model.
Codex is included with Mandri. To use Pi, Claude Code or another supported tool, install its command-line application first. In Settings, open Harnesses to check which tools Mandri can find. After installing a tool, click Verify to refresh its status.
If you have not connected a model provider, follow Add a provider. The OpenRouter guide covers a remote provider; the LM Studio guide covers a local model server. An existing account configured in a supported tool can also provide its native models.
Set up the session
Section titled “Set up the session”- Click New chat in the sidebar.
- Open the tool selector below the message field and choose your tool. A tool marked Not installed is unavailable until Mandri can find it.
- Click Choose a folder…, browse to your project and select Use this folder. This is the folder the agent will work in.
- Click Choose a model…. Open your provider’s group or search for a model, then select it. For a coding task, choose a model that supports tool calls. Availability and capabilities depend on the provider and model.
- Open the permissions menu. For a first session, Manual in Pi or Ask for approval in Codex lets you respond to actions that require permission. The available modes depend on the tool.
- Describe the task, including the part of the project concerned and the result you expect. Click Send, or press Enter. Use Shift+Enter for a new line.
Follow the result
Section titled “Follow the result”Mandri opens the session when you send the task. You can expand its activity, answer approval requests and inspect recorded file changes. Continue with Follow a task and review changes.
If sending is unavailable, check that you have selected a folder, chosen an available tool and entered a task. If your provider’s models are missing, return to Settings, then Providers, and check the provider’s model list.
