Use Mandri from the terminal
The mandri command lets you configure providers and launch an agent in your terminal. The Python package installs the CLI and local daemon. The graphical app is a separate download.
Install the CLI
Section titled “Install the CLI”Install uv, then run:
uv tool install --python 3.13 mandriuv selects Python 3.13 for this installation. Codex is included with Mandri. Other tools, such as Pi, require their own installation.
Connect a model provider
Section titled “Connect a model provider”Choose the setup that matches the account or server you use:
Provider names identify your connections. A model reference has the form <provider-name>/<model-id>. Copy the exact model ID from the provider’s catalog, including any slashes within it.
Launch from your project folder
Section titled “Launch from your project folder”Open a terminal in the folder you want the agent to work on. Once your provider is configured, replace both placeholders below:
mandri run --model "<provider-name>/<model-id>" codexMandri starts its local daemon if needed and opens Codex in that folder. Enter your request in the terminal and respond to its approval prompts. Review file changes before keeping them.
To select a different folder, pass --cwd before codex:
mandri run --model "<provider-name>/<model-id>" --cwd "/path/to/project" codexThese commands use your configured execution and privacy defaults. To select host execution without pseudonymization explicitly, add --execution-backend host --privacy-mode none before codex. See surrogate and Docker execution for the other modes and their platform requirements.
Check a connection
Section titled “Check a connection”mandri provider listmandri provider verify <provider-name>mandri provider models <provider-name>Verification checks access to the provider. It does not run a coding task or prove that every listed model can use tools reliably.
